SHORT DESCRIPTION a small brown-and-white tabby tom with amber eyes. PERSONALITY positive - outgoing, charismatic, determined, brave, easygoing neutral - excitable, mischievous, ambitious, energetic negative - manipulative, ruthless, acts without thinking, somewhat self-absorbed, oblivious, over-emotional, needs attention and reassurance very often, much more scheming than is immediately obvious xander is a bit of an odd character - when it comes to his emotions, they are either mild or extreme; he seems to have no real middle ground. for this reason, he can seem very easygoing sometimes, or extremely excited others. generally, he's a pretty charismatic cat, in that he likes to make friends and puts forth a lot of energy into his apparent effort to befriend the whole world. this outward friendliness, however, masks a darkness that he does not so often show. while xander might care for those he considers his friends - and he considers most everyone he meets a friend to some degree, at the very least - he still has problems with actually considering how other cats feel, even to the point of being completely unphased by some violence or the idea of hurting (and even killing) other cats. of course, he's indignant when a friend of his is hurt by someone unfairly - and he'll do all that he can to get them justice - but that's just it; when it comes to this justice, xander might tend towards merciless more than fair. hurting other cats has never bothered him quite as much as it should, and though his normally compassionate attitude towards those around him stops him from being a danger to anyone usually, it does mean that he is certainly not a force ever to be trifled with - he simply would not hesitate to seriously harm any cat who did anything to hurt someone he cared about. xander's friendliness also hides a degree of cunning that many would not at first suspect. yes, he is charismatic, and he cares for others - but he also knows just how charismatic he can be, and he sometimes tends towards being manipulative when he knows he can get away with it. he's also quite the secret schemer, hiding a great deal of calculation behind his upbeat exterior. still, while he certainly isn't unintelligent, he is quite lacking when it comes to common sense, and he can tend to act rashly without thinking at times just as often as he might scheme. what he lacks in the common sense department, however, he makes up for in outgoingness, managing to be an altogether fairly agreeable and even perhaps likeable cat despite him being likely to sometimes get on his friends' nerves, as he can be a bit of a nuisance at times (high energy can get old, after all - and he also has a really bad sense of humor, as in puns and bad jokes and laughing at anything possible. he will, as a side note, say anything to try and make his friends smile or laugh. and usually make a fool of himself anyway.) he acts generally cheery most of the time, and might at times not seem to take things as seriously as he should. however, he is serious about protecting his friends, as he has a fierce loyalty to those he cares about and a determination to prove himself (and perhaps one day even lead). his loyalty to those closest to him translates also to his regard for non city cats; while at gatherings, xander is as quick as ever to try and make friends with woodland cats or Clan cats, but in battle with either he would prove himself fierce and perhaps even ruthless. he often does not think before acting, after all, and as he has a strong belief in an afterlife and the spirits of their ancestors, he does not have much of a grasp on the concept of death. xander can at times seem to be an oblivious cat, at least to his surroundings - though not to the emotions of others, as he has always been fairly good at reading them. ironically enough, however, though xander is a very friendly cat and has a great deal of affection and care for any cat he considers a friend, he can sometimes seem to lack any forethought for how others will feel based off of how he acts, even though he is good at reading these feelings when they do come up. he is somewhat self-absorbed and perhaps even a little selfish - in the end, he does want what is best for his friends, but the ways in which he achieves helping them get there might sometimes hurt them without him even thinking about it. (for example, if he notices a friend is in an unhealthy relationship, he might decide to be meddlesome and make an effort to break them up - even if his friend might become upset with him.) he believes that the ends justify the means, and he wants to do what he can to help his friends and his clan - even if sometimes he doesn't really think things through enough before he does or says them. he likes to do things for others, and would be the type to offer a particularly juicy bit of prey to a friend instead of himself or offer to kit-watch for the nursery queens. he'd also love hanging around older cats - he loves stories, and especially ones regarding those who have passed on, as he has a deep fascination with the idea of spirits and of an afterlife, especially the starclan that the clans apparently hold so dear. HISTORY born into the harsh city life as the smallest of a litter of four, Xander has always felt like he's had something to prove. from a young age, eager and enthusiastic as he was, he was always even more enthusiastic about their mother's lessons on fighting and defending themselves, a stark contrast to the oldest of their litter, Zoey. still, as much as Xander could often sense Zoey's discomfort with the idea of fighting, she rose to the role of older sibling and protector rather readily, and Xander - and the rest of their litter - came to appreciate her a lot for all she did to set a good example for them. Zoey was always defending them as best she could, even from such a young age; she put forth extra effort to be as brave and tough as she could be, and to snap at the heels of any cat who dared try and mess with her family. through the combined efforts of Zoey and their mother, the large litter all survived to adulthood - though their mother passed when they were 8 moons old due to a passing monster. but Xander had noticed the unhappiness his oldest sibling was hiding under her brave facade, and finally when they were just over 12 moons old, he confronted her. if she was so unhappy, why was she staying here? Zoey seemed shocked to be confronted, but gave into her brother and admitted that he had perceived right; she was unhappy with the city life, hated the bustling streets and hostilities and crowds. Xander had never seen a problem with it himself, but, he reasoned aloud to her, if she wasn't happy living here, why not go somewhere else? after all, they'd grown up hearing tales of the nearby woodland, where cats could live in peace and keep to themselves and prey was good. while the promise of good hunting was one thing, Xander knew he would never be able to live under such cover of darkness, never seeing the sky - and neither could any of their littermates. but Zoey was different. he could tell she would find a better home there, and he told her so. reluctantly, and with Xander's promise to watch over their siblings instead, Zoey agreed to his proposal - for her to try and find a new home in the woodland, and to only return if it was not right for her there. Xander put on a brave and cheery face as he had to watch her leave - but he was deeply sad, in truth, to see her go. Zoey had always been the closest to him of any of their littermates - though of course Xander was friendly enough with all of them. but he could tell that she would never be happy here in the city - just as much as he could never be happy in the forest. though he grieved for her absence, he delighted at the thought that she could have a better life somewhere else. the seasons passed, then passed again; not much changed for Xander. one of his littermates passed due to a particularly harsh winter; the other two grew closer as a result, mourning so many of their family lost - but Xander seemed only to drift farther apart from them. he still cared about them, and did what he could to make sure they were safe, of course - but he focused his attention outwards now, making friends and meeting new cats in the hopes of building some sort of a reputation. keeping his family safe on his own was one thing - but if he could manage to rise up in the ranks, become a leader... they'd never have to worry about safety again. | ||||||
