the warrior code is the set of laws which apply to the clan cats living in these lands. most of these rules were devised during the creation of the clans themselves - others, however, were added later on, and today rockclan and treeclan's codes differ slightly because of this.
The Warrior Code is as follows:
1. Clan boundaries must be respected. Never hunt or travel through another Clan's territory unless you have expressly been given permission. These borders should be checked regularly, and marked in order to keep out trespassers.
2. Prey should be killed in order to be eaten, and for no other reason.
3. Those who need it more will be fed first. Apprentices and warriors should not eat until they know for sure that the nursing cats, kits, and elders have been fed as well.
(In TreeClan, the leader and deputy are also considered among cats who 'need it more' as they need their strength to lead, and they are permitted to eat before any other cats if they so wish.)
4. Kits may not leave the camp unless accompanied by an escort. A kitten will be apprenticed at six moons of age, and requires six moons of training to become a warrior.
(In TreeClan, the six moons of training rule is more flexible.)
5. Warriors, on the night of their ceremony and after receiving their warrior name, must keep a silent vigil and stand guard for the duration of the night.
(This is enforced more so in RockClan than in TreeClan; in TreeClan, as a warrior must prove themselves in some way to be made a warrior, sometimes they may be excused from this vigil if they particularly need the rest after whatever they did [such as if they fought extremely hard in a battle.])
6. The deputy becomes the leader when the leader dies, retires, or is exiled. Warriors must have been made a mentor at least once in order to be named the deputy, and a new deputy should be chosen before moonhigh whenever the role is vacated.
7. Every full moon, the two Clans will gather during a truce lasting for the duration of the night. No fighting will occur during this Gathering. City cats and rogue cats may also attend if they wish to socialize or learn of any significant Clan news.
8. While both Clans have a right to independence and even conflict, in times of severe strife when both are threatened, they must be willing to band together. If one or both Clans is to be erased, the balance would be thrown - thusly, it is encouraged for the Clans to fight side-by-side when they are severely threatened.
9. You do not need to kill to win your battles, and to do so when it is unnecessary is severely dishonorable.
10. You must never ignore a kit who is in pain or in danger, no matter whether the kit is from your Clan or not.
11. Your Clan must come first, always. You are allowed to have friendships outside the Clan's borders, but your loyalty must always remain to your Clan, and you must be willing to defend your Clanmates at any expense.
ADDITIONAL RULES (CLAN SPECIFIC)
TREECLAN ONLY
12. The word of the Clan's leader should not be questioned unless absolutely necessary. Respect their decisions and their final word on a conflict.
13. Nursing and expecting cats are to be treated with the highest respect, as they are the usherers of the Clan's future. Any Clan member who shows disrespect to these cats is to be punished.
ROCKCLAN ONLY
12. No cat should ever be denied the right to train as or live as a warrior if they so wish, no matter what disadvantages they might have been born with or have been afflicted with later in life. Cats with disabilities should never be discouraged from becoming a warrior, medicine cat, or even leader, if it is their wish not to retire.
13. If a Clan member is to prove themselves in some manner to be the truest of heroes, and deserving of the highest of praise and honor for their deeds, it is possible for them to receive a name change as a reward for their commendable actions. The suffix given to them will be -sun, -spirit, -moon, or -light - for only a cat as bright as the moon and sun's light itself, and showing as much spirit as their warrior ancestors, could earn this sort of highest honor.
