ETERNA RULES
1. Eterna is, as per Proboards rules, PG-13. Generally, we'd prefer any graphic material be taken to offsite messaging. Still, things like milder violence are allowed, so long as you follow the below rule.
2. When posting anything that may contain triggering (that means anything that could feasibly upset someone) or mildly adult material (still within PG-13 standards) such as descriptions of intense violence, please make sure to put [TW] in the title of your thread. It helps also if you detail what difficult topics the thread might cover if triggering at the top of your post - something like (TW for graphic violence and abuse.) That said, we'd prefer seriously intense and triggering topics be kept to a minimum if possible, to help keep all members comfortable. If you absolutely have to publicly RP a somewhat graphic scene, then power to you, so long as you tag it properly with a [TW] - but if you think it's a topic that should be kept offsite, then by all means keep it there, as you can always post summaries of what occurs to your characters in trackers and the like. In short: use your best judgment to know if something should be posted or not.
3. This is a safe space. Any person should feel comfortable here on Eterna, which is partially why we enforce the [TW] system (the rest is just basic human decency.) There is a preferred pronouns section on member profiles - so make sure to check it! If you don't know someone's pronouns, it's usually best to just use "they/them" until you can ask. It's extremely important to us that everyone feels as comfortable as possible here and is recognized as the correct gender. Additionally, if a member comes to us about a topic that they feel should be addressed for any reason, such as triggering material left untagged, we will do everything in our power to assure that everything is worked out. No one should ever feel unsafe here. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to PM a staff member!
4. Be kind to your fellow members and staff members, and above all, show them respect. We're all friends here! If you have a serious dispute with someone, please take it to personal message if you can, or else contact a staff member about it if you feel it necessary. We have a no tolerance policy on serious bullying and harassment, so if you feel you have been harassed, do not hesitate to contact one of us about it so that we can take action.
5. When addressing topics such as abusive relationships or bigoted attitudes - generally anything that could seriously upset or offend someone - even if it is only IC, we'd prefer it if you did not portray the topic in a wholly positive light in the narrative itself. While writing with your character's voice is fine, in some cases it may be better to take a more neutral tone in the narrative even while your character's thoughts, dialogue and actions are otherwise. Yes, some cats may have bigoted attitudes - but it does not mean you have to write those into the narrative as well and not just their speech/thoughts, such as through misgendering characters et cetera. Misgendering, even of characters, can be triggering to some people. We would prefer also that abusive relationships are not portrayed as ideal, especially OOC - it's best to address when these are unsafe situations.
6. NPCs are allowed, but powerplaying or godmodding is not! Generally, if you'd like to interact with an NPC family member (et cetera et cetera) or someone else in some way connected to your character, but who has not yet been adopted, then feel free to use them as an NPC in your posts. This means that they can be RPed (in a more simple fashion, at least) while observed while one of your characters (or through the POV of one of them) but that their own POV and thoughts cannot be explored. We'd also prefer if you kept track of any serious developments so that you could let the eventual adoptees of these characters know, if this was the case!
7. As far as characters, there is no character limit (just make sure you can manage yours!) and high positions will be determined through audition. Since these Clans are so close, they are regarded as one being for the purposes of high positions - so of the two high positions you can have, you can have one high position in the Clans, as well as one within either of the non-Clan hierarchies. You cannot have a high position in both TreeClan and RockClan - sorry! We'd prefer if your positions had some variance if you have multiple (a leader-esque cat and a healer-esque cat, for example) but we are not strict about this.
8. You are allowed one OOC account, and should have one account per character after this. For tagging purposes, it is preferred that your IC accounts are named similarly to your characters at least ("white" for a character named whitepaw is alright, for example) if not using their full name. If you create an apprentice or kit, it's fine to name them that name, even if their name will eventually change.
9. There is a word limit for IC posts - your post must have at least 150 words. (There is no 'upper limit' - write as much as you'd like!)
10. There will be semi-regular activity checks - likely bimonthly - so make sure you participate in those if you don't want your characters to be archived!
Thanks!
